So shot selection really encompasses everything you need to know about pickleball. What shot do I hit when? What is my target? Should I hit it with top spin, slice, or flat? What pace? What depth? There are so many variables so let's dive in and start with the first shot:
Serve
Forehand grip bevel 3 or 4
Forehand drive with topspin
Aim deep and into the corner.
Don't have to hit with a lot of pace
Give plenty of clearance over the net
Stay behind the baseline
Return
Deep
Float it so you have enough time to get to the NVZ line
Third Shot
Aim at the person who just returned the serve
Aim at their feet with a top spin drive or drip
Fourth shot -Â
If you're not at the NVZ line, then drop or drive until you can safely get there
It's fine to attack and stay in the transition zone
In general, aim at the chicken wing of your opponent or the gaps when speeding up.
Speeding up just starts, you have to expect a counter, finish
